You Can't Have Roots and Wings

Hello! Bonjour!

This blog that i made is for my trip this summer to keep anyone reading up to date and to also possibly post some pictures!
This June I am going to Rabat, Morocco for one month! I am going here to volunteer to help take care of children in orphanages, hospitals, or possibly even in their schools to help teach them English. The program that I am going with has a variety of things you can volunteer to do, I just chose to work with children. I leave from Newark Airport on June fifth and arrive in Morocco on the morning of the 6th. We stay for one month, which mean i will be returning on the evening of July fourth in time for the fireworks (providing I am not too jet lagged of course.)
The organization that I am traveling with is called Cross-Cultural Solutions and they have set up homes in different countries all over the world such as countries in Africa, South America, Russia, Australia, and India. All of the volunteers stay in the home base they provide, which I hear is beautiful, as well as providing three meals a day. They provide transportation to and from your volunteer work in the mornings, while the evenings and weekends are your for free time.
Margie will be coming along with me for this trip which makes it so much easier and less scary! (We are meeting in Morocco.) I have to fly to Paris and then layover to Rabat because unfortunately, no flights go directly to Morocco from the United States. On the way home we will be traveling together, she has a great opportunity to travel through Europe before she meets me in Morocco.
So right now I am fundrasing to get to the amount I need for this summer adventure and fortunately my friends and family are so supportive and helping me raise the necessary money, which is expensive.
So I am teaching myself French because a lot of Moroccans speaks it as well as Arabic. I figure I have a better shot at learning French, lets just hope I remember the majority of what i am taking in. I also have to get the immunizations which I am not looking foward to, but what has to be done, has to be done I suppose.
I am so excited for this trip and just as equally nervous, but it will be such a great experience and I will have so many stories when I return as well as a new outlook. Morocco is more Medditerian than most countries in Africa and the trips you can go on while you're there seem so thrilling. I have to look into everything so that we can plan a little a head of time. I think that the hardest thing will be packing. I over-pack when I go somewhere for a week, I am not quite sure how i will manage to pack for a month!
I will update this site every so often before i leave for my trip, but while I am there I want to document everything as well as post pictures. This way, everyone who is sponsoring me can see where their money is going and what I am doing each day.
Here is the site if you want to check it out, or even if you're interested in a trip yourself:
www.my.crossculturalsolutions.org. If you would like to sponsor me you can just type my name in the username box to search for me or send a check made out to Cross-Culutral Solutions. To everyone who has helped me so far, thank you so very much it means a lot to me!

As for right now, it's back to planning and concentrating on school.
I will talk to you again soon!

Bye, Au revoir, Bessalama!!
